Local campaigners and candidates from the Scottish Green Party were out in
big numbers earlier this week at train stations across Central Scotland to
highlight our policies on public transport provision, including the nationalisation
of the railways, re-regulation of bus services, and the introduction of
Steven Hannigan has been selected as our candidate for the Hamilton North & East By-election on Thursday 21st Janaury 2016. Here are a few words of introduction...
Born in Rutherglen, growing up in Cambuslang and now living in Hamilton, I have lived in South Lanarkshire all my life. I graduated in Audio Technology with Multimedia and work as a freelance audio designer as well as in retail. Working with the public is a major perk of both of my jobs as it allows me to interact with people from all walks of life on a day to day basis.
The South Lanarkshire Green Party joined hundreds of other campaigners in Motherwell, on Saturday 7th November, in support of the workers and communities threatened by the proposed closure of the Dalzell and Clydebridge Steel Works.
The march, which left from the threatened Dalzell plant and culminated at the site of the former Ravenscraig plant, sent a clear signal to both the Scottish and UK governments that campaigners expect them to use all powers at their disposal to ensure the steel industry continues to operate in Lanarkshire.

We welcome North Lanarkshire Councillor Frances McGlinchey as a member of the Scottish Greens. Strathkelvin councillor Frances has been an Independent since leaving the SNP in 2012 following their vote to support NATO membership. She is an active councillor who is involved with a number of community groups, and Lanarkshire Greens are pleased to welcome her to the branch.
Cumbernauld-based MSP John Wilson has joined the Scottish Green Party. He is the second former SNP MSP to join the Greens since September.
