The Scottish Government’s Climate Challenge Fund, supports communities to tackle climate change by reducing their carbon emissions and increasing their capacity to take action. This year, the Fund is delighted to launch the Junior Climate Challenge Fund; specifically aimed at action taken by, and which will benefit, young people in Scotland under the age of 18. Local campaigners are encouraging East Kilbride people to show they care about tackling climate change and protecting the natural world by signing up to the international Earth Hour. World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) organise the global 'lights off' event which takes place on Saturday March 26th from 8.30pm-9.30pm. The conservation group will be bringing along their Giant Pandas to a stall in EK Town Centre on Tuesday 16th March (9am-6pm) to talk to local people and encourage them to sign up.
The recent draft Scottish budget for 2011-12 has increased the Climate Challenge Fund – it has now been extended to 31st March 2012, with an additional £10.3 million available to community groups who wish to make a real difference by reducing carbon emissions in their local area. The Fund, administered by Keep Scotland Beautiful, supports communities to tackle climate change by reducing their carbon emissions and increasing their capacity to take action.
