High tech zoo threatens local greenspace

News date:
30th Apr 2013

Greens are concerned about recently announced plans to build an "environmental tourist attraction" on the Cuningar Loop of the Clyde near Rutherglen. The development would remove an all too rare local area of wild ground which is home to some of our native wildlife and see them be replaced by a high-tech zoo housing exotic species from polar, tropical and temperate zones  in "biomes" where they never experience the outside world. Earlier this year, the Forestry Commission had revealed that it had  plans to develop woodland on the site. It is not clear whether the woodland would be able to be created if plans for the Wild Side development go ahead.
