Public meeting on Opencast Coal Extraction.

 Malcolm Spaven, of the Scottish Opencast Communities Alliance will speak on Opencast coal extraction. This is an issue of particular concern in the area as Hargreaves Services lodged an application with South Lanarkshire Council to extract up to four million tonnes of coal from a site at Glentaggart East. 

Andy Wightman talk on Land Matters

 Land rights campaigner Andy Wightman will be speaking on the Common Good assets of former Burghs such as Biggar, how and how to find out what these are and ensure that they are used to benefit local communities. SLC says Biggar has no Common Good Assets we believe that it does as the Public Park and the Burnbraes as well as some other sites would seem to meet the criteria. 

Communities need a say in Mine Restoration Trust say Greens.

The Scottish Greens have urged the Energy Minister to make sure that those communities most affected by decades of opencast coal mining in Scotland are represented on the new Scottish Mines Restoration Trust, which has been set up following the collapse of Scottish Coal.
