In case you haven’t noticed it’s been pretty wet across the UK this winter. As a kayaker I usually like a bit more rain than most, but when people are being flooded out of their homes and infrastructure seriously damaged it stops being fun!
Unlike in England and Wales in Scotland we have generally been pretty good at not building on flood plains – places that are flooding like Hawick town centre and houses close to Tweed Green in Peebles  are long established, so what’s changed?

Key Scottish Environment Statistics

This annual publication is an accessible reference document which covers a wide range of enivronmental topics including: public attitudes and behaviours, global atmosphere, air quality, water quality, green space, waste and recycling; and is a helpful starting point for more detailed local research on the environmental impacts of energy, housing and transport policies.

Global Warming Basics

This is a great 5 minute video for kids explaining the basics of global warming.

Global Footprint Network

An ecological or environmental footprint measures the amount of nature's resources an individual, community or a country consumes on a given year. This includes the amount of land and water needed to produce the goods consumed and assimilate/absorb the wastes generated. The world is currently consuming 1.6 planets, with the UK average at 3.5.
The Global Footprint Network is the think tank which first established the data-driven metric and calculates Footprint Accounts to help us work towards a one-planet future.

Zero Carbon Britain

Zero Carbon Britain is the flagship research project from the Centre for Alternative Technology, showing that a modern, zero-emissions society is possible using technology available today.

7th Dec 2015

“Scottish Greens are consistently opposed to fracking. With more Green MSPs in the Scottish Parliament, we will stand up for our communities and keep the pressure on. Fracking is a distraction from a cleaner, jobs rich energy future that benefits everyone, rather than a few multinationals."

Greens and RIC East Kilbride at the climate change march

By the time we picked up from Hamilton, our climate action bus (courtesy of EK Community Transport) to join in the Edinburgh march was nearly full. Members of the South Lanarkshire Greens united with like minded people from Oxfam, local churches and Radical Independence Campaign East Kilbride to send a powerful message to our leaders in Paris this week:
